PARIS: Less than a week before the Olympic Games begin, French authorities have recalled Paris 2024 brand metal water bottles for containing excessive levels of the endocrine disruptor bisphenol A.

The government website Rappel Conso said the levels of chemicals in bottles made by French company Vilac “did not comply with regulations”.

The bottles were sold in France between late August and early June 2023 and are no longer available on the Vilac online store.

“We are in discussions with the licensee to understand the reasons for the non-compliance and ensure appropriate action is taken,” Paris 2024 Winter Olympics organizers told Reuters.

France has banned the use of BPA since 2015 due to its links to health problems such as breast cancer and infertility.

Representatives for Verac were unavailable for comment outside business hours, and Paris 2024 officials were unable to say how many bottles of beer had been recalled.
