On August 5, Sheikh Hasina was forced to resign in the face of the student movement. He secretly left the country, leaving behind his responsibilities. That ended the 15-year history of the Awami League ruling Bangladesh. Since then, most of the party’s top leaders have fled the country.
The whereabouts of the newly appointed former Sports Minister and BCB Chairman Nazmul Hasan Papon is currently unknown. However, a BCB director told Dhaka Post that Papon is willing to resign as BCB president. He is also in discussion with influential directors on the board.
“Papan Bhai wants to collaborate,” a BCB director told Dhaka Post today, Thursday (August 15). “He wants to move. Didn’t talk to me directly about it. But he wants to leave. Don’t know when and what to do. In touch with BCB senior management.”
If Papon resigns, a new president will be elected through new elections. Then, after a long time, there will be a change in the top leadership of BCB.
Papon has not attended any BCB event since August 5. According to the board charter, board meetings are held every two months. If a director is absent from three consecutive meetings, his or her position as a director will be deemed invalid.
Therefore, if Papon is absent from the program and does not resign on his own, Papon will continue to serve as the director and chairman of the Bangladesh Cricket Association for at least 6 months.
