The New York Times, citing three Iranian sources, reported that Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has ordered Iran to retaliate for the killing of Ismail Haniyeh on Iranian soil by directly attacking Israel.

Hamas political bureau chief Hain and his bodyguards were attacked and killed in an attack on their residence in northern Iran on Wednesday morning.

Hamas is designated a terrorist organization by the European Union and the United States.

The New York Times report, citing three unnamed sources, said Iran planned to launch a joint attack on military targets in Israel using drones and rockets.

According to the New York Times, two of the three sources interviewed by the newspaper were from the Iranian Revolutionary Guard.

The newspaper further wrote that Iran is investigating the possibility of launching attacks on Israel from Yemen, Syria and parts of Iraq at the same time as a direct attack on Israel from Iranian territory.

Earlier, senior Iranian leaders said in yesterday’s message after Haniyeh was killed that Israel was ready to severely punish itself with this action.

Israel has not officially confirmed its involvement in the attack on Haniya.
