KOROR, Palau — Detroit Tigers professional baseball right fielder Bligh Madris will visit Palau this year from November 10 to 15. Madris, the first Palauan to play in Major League Baseball, will be accompanied by fast-pitch Olympian Jessica Mendoza.

Their visit is organized as part of the U.S. Department of State’s Sports Envoy Program, which aims to inspire young athletes and promote the importance of sports. The program recruits professional athletes to lead clinics, participate in community events, and emphasize the value of leadership and teamwork. Madriz and Mendoza will host sports clinics and outreach events aimed at empowering the next generation of athletes in Palau.

Blay Madriz started his professional baseball career in June 2022 with the Pittsburgh Pirates, moved to the Houston Astros in 2023, and returned to the Detroit Tigers in 2024. He is from Peleliu State, his father is Style Madriz, and his mother is Kim Madriz, both from Nebraska, USA.
