Koror, Palau – Palau hosted its first-ever video game exhibition and tournament on Wednesday, July 25, as part of a two-day fintech conference at the West Plaza Hotel.

“Fintech is short for financial technology, and it’s where multiple technologies intersect with finance,” said Steven Rdechor, a representative from the Ministry of Finance and host of the event.

The tournament features popular games Tekken 8 and PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds.

“It’s great to meet new friends and see so many young people participating in a program like this. I believe there is a future for programs like this,” said Anthony, who came in second.

Minister Uduy said at a press conference on Wednesday that the event is an opportunity to “discover talent, recruit talent and help develop talent to support government services such as cybersecurity and fintech initiatives such as the digital residency program.”

Udui added: “Next year, we hope to expand the competition to hold regional competitions and invite friends from Taiwan, Japan, the Philippines and even Guam to compete with our team.”

The main fintech conference took place at the West Plaza Hotel on Tuesday, focusing on digital transformation, retail savings bonds, Palau’s stablecoin, digital IDs for the population, and digital residency.

This year marks the second year that Palau has hosted the FinTech Forum.
