KOOR, Palau – The Palau Youth Department is developing a national youth database to collect data and inform youth employment policies and programs.
The repository will be a database containing information on young Palauans aged 14 to 35, including education, employment status and health data. The information will be accessed through an online resource center linked to the government website under the Ministry of Human Resources, Communities, Tourism and Development and Palaufutures.com.
“The National Youth Database aims to have a positive impact on decisions on youth employment policies and programs,” Youth Department chief Alonzi said in a statement. Alonzi also pointed out the lack of a central data repository and said: “We need to involve all stakeholders and work together to collect, analyze and use data.”
The two-year project will start in June 2024 and is expected to be completed in 2026. The project is led by the Youth Department in partnership with 14 agencies, including non-governmental organizations and state governments.
Funding for the program comes from the U.S. Department of the Interior’s Insular Affairs Technical Assistance Project grant program.
