Atal Khan Rahimzoi, a resident of Kabul province, was declared the first ordinary scorer in the 1403 ordinary examination.
The Taliban’s National Examination Board said on Sunday that Attar Khan graduated from Habibia High School with 359.61 points and was admitted to Kabul Medical University.
The second place in the 1403 exam was Seyyed Hamed Hashemi from Balkh province with a score of 357.71 points, and the third place was Shafiullah Nizami from Farah province with a score of 357.25 points.
This year’s matriculation exams in Afghanistan were held in several phases without any girls taking part.
The Taliban also closed universities open to girls in December 2022 after banning girls’ education above grade 6 in Afghanistan.
The Taliban’s decision has caused widespread reactions at home and abroad.
Human rights organizations and countries have repeatedly called on the Taliban to lift restrictions on girls’ education, arguing that depriving girls of educational opportunities will have long-term consequences for the development and progress of Afghan society.
However, the Taliban continue to press ahead with their policy and insist they are changing the law to allow girls to go to school in the future.
This year’s exams were conducted in several phases in different parts of Afghanistan.
