(CNS): The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) will hold a public hearing at 10:00 a.m. this Thursday to review the recent performance report of the Office of the Auditor General. Cayman Airways Limited’s efficiency and effectivenessCAL President and CEO Fabian Whorms will attend the ceremony and serve as witnesses, along with CAL Board Chairman John-Paul Clarke and Tourism Chief Officer Stran Bodden.

Auditor General Sue Winspear made 14 recommendations in her report, but her main focus was Unrealistic budget and the funding the airline has received over the years.

According to the performance report, CAL’s funding model, financial and non-financial performance, strategic direction, governance, and workforce planning and management all require improvement. At the upcoming hearing, PAC members will question three witnesses on the contents of the report in accordance with Standing Order 77(4) and Section 87(1) of the Cayman Islands Constitution Order 2009, which authorize the committee to review the accounts and financial transactions of all authorities and Crown corporations.

After the hearings, the PAC, chaired by Opposition Leader Roy McTaggart, will prepare its own report to complement the OAG report. Under standard practice, the committee has the power to make additional recommendations to the government or CAL.

The public can watch the proceedings from Parliament House in George Town, or watch a live stream on the Cayman Islands Government’s YouTube channel, CIGTV, or listen to it on Breeze 105.3FM.
