The Town Hall of the 8th arrondissement of Ouagadougou, in collaboration with its partner associations, organized a blood donation day at the Pierre-Ligdi site in the municipality of Rimkiéta on Saturday, August 10, 2024. The initiative aims to support combat troops and patients during the malaria epidemic.
According to Dramani Zongo, the second vice-chairman of the Special Delegation of Region 8, the blood donation was initiated in response to an urgent need. “We decided to organize this blood donation day initially to help our combat troops who are in critical condition in the area and need blood. In addition, this blood donation day will help ease the suffering of the patients. You are well aware that we are in the midst of a malaria epidemic, which means that the need for blood is very urgent,” he explained.
“Our goal is about 500 blood bags,” said the second vice chairman of the Eighth District Special Delegation.

Associations in the area did not bargain for their presence. “Currently, with the war imposed on us, we often have injured people who need blood. It is this situation that prompted us to participate in this blood donation day at the town hall,” said the president of the Youth Development Association and coordinator of the Youth and Employment Association in Zonon Region 8, Boureima.
Among the blood donors of the day, Saam-Naaba Boulga from the city of Basinco stood out. According to him, the motivation came from the highest authorities of Burkina Faso. “The president of Faso appealed to all those who could contribute in one way or another to relieve the burden on the front lines and on the defense and security forces fighting to reconquer the territory. So we mobilized to donate blood to show our support for the children fighting to save the country.”
He did not forget to call on all the people to donate blood to save lives. “Those who do not have money or other items to donate, I think at least by donating their blood they will also support the struggle of FDS in their own way,” invited Saam-Naaba Boulga.
Salimata Ouédraogo also made a life-saving move and plans to support the FDS by donating blood. “The defence and security forces are in the jungle and they protect us. So we in the city have to support them too. It is with this outpouring of support that I decided to come and donate blood,” the volunteer blood donor revealed.
The event organizers aim to collect about 500 bags of blood through this action.
