Abia State Governor, Alex Oti, on Wednesday, announced the removal of his Press Secretary, Kazi Ukow, while approving the payment of school fees to Abia State students studying in India who were abandoned by the previous administration, and approved the payment of school fees to students of the Nigerian Law School in the country.
Briefing pressmen following a meeting of the state executive council chaired by the governor himself, the state Commissioner for Information and Cultural Affairs, Okey Kanu, said the move for Abia State students to study in India was to enable them to continue their studies after being abandoned by the previous administration in the state.
The Commissioner said, “Governor Alex Oti has generously approved the payment of tuition fees for Indian students in Abia, given his concern and the high regard he places on students. He also approved the payment of tuition fees for 271 Abia students of the Nigerian Law School.”
Kanu also disclosed that the governor had also accredited 19 programmes of the Abia State University, Uturu (ABSU), saying that the governor had directed the state commissioner of lands to expedite within 48 hours the occupancy permit and C-of-O for Frank Onyeka, an Abia international footballer from Isu-Ikwato Local Government Area, who has finalised plans to establish a football academy in the state.
Onyeka and his wife visited the governor along with Daati Baba Ahmed who personally endorsed the college and made the pledge, with the governor expressing his administration’s willingness to support the college, which is located between Umuahia and Aba.
Prince Kanu noted that the governor of the state had replaced his CPS, Kazie Uko, with another person, Njoku Ukoha Njoku.
Responding to journalists’ questions on the cholera outbreak, the commissioner said: “There is no outbreak of cholera in the state and even samples of suspected cases sent to the National Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, Abuja, tested negative.”
