The 59-year-old Brazilian doctor, the sole survivor of a car crash near Otavi two weeks ago that killed nine people, was released on bail on Friday.
Louis Charles Araujo Desa was granted bail of N150,000 on Friday at the Otavi Magistrate’s Court. He faces charges of manslaughter and reckless, negligent or careless driving.
The accident occurred about 20 kilometers outside Otavi. It is said that when the accident happened, Araujo Desa’s Toyota Fortuner seemed to try to overtake and crashed into a seven-seater car. The eight passengers in the seven-seater car died, and Araujo Desa’s wife Natale Gontijo was also among the victims.
He was arrested after the incident and remained in custody until Friday, when he was released on bail.
Araujo Desa and Gontijo, also Brazilian and working as a plastic surgeon in Verona, Italy, were Brazilian tourists travelling in Africa when the accident happened.
