Dominic Lobalu is very happy. The 25-year-old not only set a new Swiss record, but also broke the Olympic limit. However, it is not yet clear whether he will be allowed to compete in Paris.
Many runners took advantage of the Oslo meeting to achieve their best times, and the organizers made all the necessary preparations for the tempo run. The champion, Hagos Gebrhiwet from Ethiopia, came close to breaking the world record with a time of 12 minutes 36.73 seconds.

Lobaru was the only athlete to start for the Swiss track and field team, and he held on until 3,500 meters before dropping off slightly. In a world-class field, No. 7 Riffel (13:07.54) created a great moment in Swiss track and field when he won the 5,000-meter silver medal at the Los Angeles Summer Olympics 40 years ago. Several runners have tried to steal that record from him over the decades.
But Pierre Deleuze, Christian Belz, Julian Wanders and Jonas Lars failed. On the other hand, Lobaru was confident in himself and had apologized to Riffel for destroying his 5000m record at the Bern Grand Prix.

The refugee from South Sudan has now become a well-known face in Switzerland.
