Southland dairy farmer faces prosecution for animal welfare violations

Animal welfare inspectors this week again found unacceptable conditions for cows at a Southland dairy farm, leading to a search of the property today.

again! ?

“We have visited the farm 13 times over the last few months to carry out assessments, monitoring and inspections,” Glen Burrell, head of compliance and response at the Ministry for Primary Industries, told 1News.

“When our inspectors arrived earlier this week we found a number of concerning matters and that the standards were unacceptable.

“In these very serious cases, there will likely be prosecutions.”

13 times. It’s fucking incredible.

I sincerely hope that POS will be prosecuted and even more actions will be taken. other The farmers can’t say they didn’t know/didn’t realize! Apparently there are too many cows on the pasture for them to handle!

But the Greens are not impressed with how long it has taken the Ministry for Primary Industries to act on the issue of so-called “slurry farms”.

“It’s taken too long. It’s been 70 days now (since the complaint was made) and there are still cows on the farm … Most New Zealanders don’t want to see animals wallowing in mud and their own excrement,” said Steve Abel, the party’s animal welfare spokesman.

“It’s good that they’re taking action, unfortunately they’re only taking that action because of members of the public who were brave enough to film and record what was going on there.”
