Ooredoo’s walletii app, an advanced financial technology solution, was launched in the Sultanate of Oman during the 33rd COMEX Global Technology Exhibition.

Ooredoo Fintech, the wholly owned financial technology company of the Ooredoo Group and Ooredoo Oman, has launched the walletii app, which means “my wallet” in Arabic, as the name reflects the app’s primary purpose as an easy-to-use mobile wallet that helps consumers and merchants modernise and simplify financial transactions.

Launching for the first time in Oman, the Walletii app will be the first financial services mobile app to offer a remittance marketplace and enable users to choose from multiple financial service providers to ensure they get the best rates for their transactions.

Scheduled to be launched in Oman later this summer, the walletii app will allow users, whether they are Ooredoo customers or not, to complete payments, send and receive money locally and internationally, and earn rewards in an easy-to-use and secure app.

The walletii app will also include the ability to make payments in a simplified, chat-like manner, ensuring users have an intuitive, easy experience for everyday transactions, and app users will also be rewarded through the app’s loyalty program, which will increase their engagement levels and satisfaction. Aziz Al Othman Fakhro, Group CEO of Ooredoo, said: “We are delighted to express our sincere gratitude to the Central Bank of Oman for granting us the license to operate walletii, as this certification allows us to make a significant contribution to the financial technology sector in the Sultanate of Oman. With this step, we aim to provide consumers with a simple, secure and affordable financial tool that can help improve their everyday lives.”

Mirko Giacco, CEO of Ooredoo Fintech, expressed his delight at the new project and said: “Ooredoo’s walletii app is designed to ensure ease of use, provide a great experience for customers and modernize the way people manage their money in Oman. By providing a simple, secure digital wallet experience, we aim to support consumers and businesses and lead financial inclusion and innovation efforts across the region.”

Ooredoo Fintech, a wholly owned financial technology holding company of Ooredoo, is a strategic move by the Ooredoo Group to consolidate its position as a leading digital infrastructure provider in the fields of basic communication services, data centers and financial technology. Ooredoo Fintech aims to provide financial empowerment to individuals and businesses across the MENA region, and Oman will be at the forefront of these efforts as it is the first market for this new financial technology brand.

The launch ceremony took place at the Ooredoo Pavilion at the 33rd COMEX Global Technology Exhibition and was attended by Bassam Yousef Al-Ibrahim, CEO of Ooredoo Oman; Mirko Giacco, CEO of Ooredoo Fintech; and Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Musafir, Regional President of Ooredoo Fintech Oman.
