Only 33% of children under five receive early childhood education

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has painted a bleak picture of early childhood education (ECE) in Botswana, highlighting the severity of the problem and the need to address it. According to the agency, nearly 70% of children under the age of five in Botswana do not have access to early childhood education.

“Sixty-seven percent of children under five in Botswana do not have access to early childhood education (ECE),” noted UNICEF, which works to protect the rights of every child around the world, especially the most vulnerable.

According to UNICEF, early education is becoming a policy priority globally, particularly in upper-middle-income countries such as Botswana, which are increasingly committed to investing in the youngest learners.
