Only 13% of EU citizens want to leave the bloc, according to a study conducted in 27 member states by the French think tank Foundation for Political Innovation and the Ipsos Research Institute, including voters of far-right parties.
The countries with the highest percentage of voters wanting to leave the EU are Bulgaria (22%), the Czech Republic (20%), Austria (19%) and France (18%). In Portugal, only 3% of voters want such a thing, and in Lithuania, only 5%.
Only 8% of countries that adopted the euro want to return to their own currencies. The highest percentage is in Croatia, the last country to adopt the euro, at 14%, and the lowest is in Portugal at 3%. In France, the percentage is 10%.
Voters of far-right parties also mostly support remaining in the EU, BTA reported.
This is the case for 66% of voters who intend to vote for a party that is a member of the European Parliament’s Identity and Democracy group, to which the French National Front belongs. The percentage is even higher (80%) for voters who intend to vote for a party that is a member of the “European Conservatives and Reformists”, which also includes the political group of Italian Prime Minister Giorgio Meroni.
The same is true for remaining in the eurozone, with 78% of voters in the Identity and Democracy group and 90% of voters in the European Conservatives and Reformists group supporting staying in the eurozone.
Only 21% of Europeans think that the UK is doing well outside the EU, and 77% are positive about the idea of the UK returning to the EU. IPSOS also asked Britons on this issue, of which 68% want the UK to return to the EU.
