PORT VILA (Vanuatu Daily Post) – Air Taxi suffered its second catastrophic plane crash of 2024 on Monday, with five passengers on board, including the pilot, landing at Montmartre Plantation.

While flying back to Port Vila from Tafea Province, an eyewitness and first responder to the incident told Vanuatu Daily Post Initially, the plane tried to land on the Montmartre football field, but because the field was packed with students participating in a sports meeting, the plane changed direction and landed in a plantation.
“I was at home when students were shouting that the plane had crashed and we could smell the aftereffects of the crash. It was about 3:30 p.m.,” he told Vanuatu Daily Post.
“Two of them were seriously injured. I helped the one who was seriously injured, while the other passenger, who was bleeding from the head, was crying. He wanted me to lift him up, so I did and placed him in the position he wanted. The other passengers and the pilot had already left the plane, leaving only two people on board.
“They had to cut off everything underneath him so he could get out of where he was stuck and put him on a stretcher, and he was taken to the hospital by ProMedical. However, it took them an hour to arrive. I was still with him when ProMedical came.”
He added that the plane was badly damaged after it hit two coconut trees and sustained severe damage to its nose.
