The Ondangwa Town Council has donated sports equipment worth N$100,000 to six sports clubs in the town.

The donations arrived earlier this month, providing the town with an opportunity to unlock much-needed financial resources and develop its sports program.

Beneficiaries include KK Palace Football Club, Young Brave Football Club, Mama Love Football Club, Ondangwa United Football Club, Ondangwa Football Academy and SOS Volleyball Academy.

Ondangwa town mayor Paavo Amwele said the teams received sports kits and training equipment, all bearing the town council’s logo.

Amwele said the teams consisted of about 200 players in total.

Investing in the future

He urged the young players to take their training seriously, noting that with hard work, they could eventually represent their country in world competitions in their respective sports.

“As a city council, we are always committed to uplifting our people. We have big plans for football and all other sports development in Ondangwa. This includes the construction of a multi-million dollar full-standard stadium in the town,” he said.

Amwell said the town is growing rapidly and needs to have state-of-the-art facilities to support sporting events.

“Having the best football stadium in Ondangwa means we will be able to attract all teams to play here, including the national team,” he said.

Firm

Amwele said the donation marked a concession by the government in developing sports. He said they hoped the work would pay off in the future with players being selected to represent the town and surrounding areas in the national team.

“Keep training. Stay focused and stay disciplined at all times,” he encouraged the players.

KK Palace FC team manager Mateus Iitula expressed his gratitude to the committee for the donation and investment in the players.

Itura said this would keep the team motivated and boost morale. He said the players would become ambassadors of Ondangwa Town Council and would carry the flag high wherever they go.
