Omani sprinter Mazoon al Alawi will compete in the second round of the women’s 100m preliminary round at the Stade de France in France. Al Alawi is aiming to excel in her third Olympic Games. Her competitors include Mariam Karim of the United Arab Emirates, Lika Karchivala of Georgia, Filomenalnesa Ekaobo of American Samoa, Bo Ya Zhang of Chinese Taipei, Wasten Regier of Guam, Halie Hazard of Grenada, Tai Nhi Yen of Vietnam and Faiqa Riaz of Pakistan.
The preliminaries will begin at 12:35pm (Oman time) and the top runners will advance to the first round of the main draw. Mazoun’s best time is 11.47 seconds. At the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, she finished sixth in the three preliminaries with a time of 12.35 seconds, while at the 2016 Rio Olympics, she finished with a time of 12.43 seconds.
Mazuun said she will strive to set a new record. “I will try to show my superb skills and strive to advance to the first round of the preliminaries. I can understand the difficulty of the competition, but I will do my best to advance. Participating in the Olympic Games for the third time means a lot to my sports career. Participating in these global sports events allows us to gain experience and build deep friendships with other athletes from all over the world,” she concluded.
Ali Barouch is preparing technically for a crucial race on Saturday. He will compete in the first round of the men’s 100m at the Stade de France. The race will start at 1:55 pm (Oman time). Ali Barouch warms up on the main track every day to acclimate to the environment. Coach Farhad Mashayki arranges training sessions to coincide with the race time to help Ali adapt and achieve good results.
Aamir al Zeidi is a member of the Omani team at the 2024 Paris Olympics, a physiotherapist, providing a variety of medical and primary treatment services to athletes and team members.
“I provide a range of medical services to members of sports delegations, including initial medical care for athletes, team members and administrators. I focus on the physical preparation of athletes before competitions and coordinate with relevant departments in case athletes are injured and need to go to the hospital,” he said.
“I am following closely with the national team’s medical and technical staff to address any pre-existing sports injuries. This step is to ensure that the athletes follow their treatment plans and remain healthy. The swimming and shooting teams returned home after withdrawing from the 2024 Paris Olympics. Swimmer Issa Al Adavi finished sixth in the 100m freestyle preliminaries with a time of 53.19 seconds, making his second Olympic appearance. In the overall preliminaries, Al Adavi finished 70th out of 79 swimmers.
Shooter Saeed Al Khatri ranked 30th in the men’s skeet shooting preliminaries with a total score of 114 points.
