Muscat: Omani bodybuilders put in a strong performance at the recently concluded 5th West Asian Bodybuilding and Fitness Championship in Muscat. The Omani bodybuilding and fitness team topped the overall standings with 325 points, Iraq came second with 234 points and Iran third with 204 points in the West Asian event held at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex from August 15 to 17. Omani bodybuilders and fitness stars won a total of 46 medals, including 20 gold, 17 silver and 9 bronze medals.
The event was jointly organized by the Oman Bodybuilding Council (OBC) and the West Asian Bodybuilding Federation. The three-day event attracted more than 100 competitors from 11 countries. The closing ceremony was held in the presence of HH Sayyid Firas bin Fatik al Said, in the presence of Rafael Santonja, President of the International Federation of Fitness and Bodybuilding (IFBB), and several prominent global and regional officials. With the above achievements, Oman’s top bodybuilders will represent the country in regional and international bodybuilding and fitness championships.
The opening day of the championship kicked off with a physique competition. In the youth group aged 16-23 and not more than 176 cm tall, Omani athletes Abdullah Amri and Moussa Baroush won the first and second place respectively, and the UAE team won the third place.
In the youth category for those aged 16-23 and over 176cm tall, Oman continued to dominate and won the championship, while Jordan and Bahrain took second and third place respectively. In the masters category for those aged over 40, Kuwait won the championship, while the UAE and Iraq took second and third place respectively.

In the men’s physique under 176 cm, Omani athlete Munir al-Luwahi won the championship, while Iraqi athletes took the second and third places. In the physique over 176 cm, Omani athletes Badr Husni, Ahmed Hadi and Mohammad Arslan took the first three places. Oman also performed well in the men’s physique under 170 cm, with Nasir Wahabi, Asad Wahabi and Abdullah Amri taking the first three places.
In the men’s fitness under 173 cm, the UAE team won the championship, the Bahrain team won the runner-up, and the Kuwait team won the third place. In the men’s fitness under 176 cm, the Oman team won the first and third place, and the Kuwait team won the runner-up. In the men’s fitness under 179 cm, the UAE team won the championship, and the Oman team won the runner-up and third place. In the men’s fitness over 179 cm, the UAE team won the championship, the Iraqi team won the runner-up, and the Jordanian team won the third place.
Bodybuilding Competition
Omani bodybuilders performed well in the bodybuilding competition. Sameer al Gharibi won the championship in the 65 kg bodybuilding competition, while Iraq came in second and the UAE team came in third. In the 70 kg bodybuilding competition, Sulaiman al Ofi’s Omani team won first place, followed by Jordan in second place and Iraq in third place. In the 75 kg bodybuilding competition, Oman swept the top three places, with Khalid al Shukiali, Haitham al Zadjali and Adil al Mushefri winning all the medals.
In the bodybuilding competition for young people aged 16-23 and under 175 cm in height, the Iraqi team won the championship, the Iranian team won the runner-up, and the Syrian team won the third place. In the men’s bodybuilding under 180 cm, Iraq won the championship, Syria took second place, and Iran took third place. In the men’s bodybuilding over 180 cm, Oman won the championship, Zaim Al Fazari and Ahmed Shetveni took third place, and Iran took second place.
In the Junior Bodybuilding under 75kg in the 16-23 age group, Iraq took first and second place, and Bahrain took third place.
