Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman today joined other countries in celebrating the World Environment Day, which is celebrated on June 5 every year, represented by the Environment Agency.

The theme of this year’s event is “Our Land, Our Future”, focusing on land restoration, combating desertification and developing drought resilience strategies.

The celebration aims to raise awareness of environmental issues, encourage communities to protect the environment and strengthen environmental policies at local, national and international levels.

The event also emphasizes engaging young people in environmental activities and promoting international cooperation among countries to address global environmental challenges.

World Environment Day is an initiative of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and is the world’s largest platform for raising public environmental awareness. Millions of people around the world celebrate the day. This year (2024), the event is hosted by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
