Ahmed Elgendi finished with a world record 1,555 points, becoming the first Egyptian to win the men’s modern pentathlon title.
The Tokyo 2020 silver medalist finished 13 points ahead of Japan’s Daishu Sato, who took silver, and Italy’s Giorgio Malan, who won bronze.
Defending champion Joe Choong of Britain was ninth with 1,519 points, 50 points behind Elgendy in fencing.
Ergendi’s result was four points better than the previous world record set by Hungary’s Csaba Bohm at the 2024 World Championships.
Earlier, defending champion Kate French and British teammate Kerenza Bryson easily advanced into Sunday’s women’s final.
Bryson had an outstanding performance in the fencing competition on Thursday, crossing the finish line first with a score of 1,402, setting a new Olympic record.
The 25-year-old, who is a qualified doctor and Army reservist, said: “I’m glad the competition went the way I wanted it to.
“This is my first time at the Olympics, so I’ve never experienced anything like this before. I really felt the energy and turned it into positivity. It was awesome to be a part of it.”
