Metro only managed two birdies on the 15th and 16th holes, with a medal long out of reach. She started the final day at 9 under and finished the Olympic tournament at 2 under after a round of 79, which meant she dropped to a tie for 18th.
However, the Swiss team had a bright spot at the end: Albane Valenzuela had a great day, she shot 65 in the round and remained 7 under par – no Olympian could have performed better than her. This means that the 26-year-old from Geneva has moved up to a tie for 13th place, even the best Swiss woman.
Meanwhile, gold went to New Zealand as Ko kept her nerve until the end. With a total of 278 (10 under par), she edged out Esther Henseleit of Germany (280) for second place, while Lin Xiyu of China (281) took the bronze.
