OGGN: Nothing to do with Ogygians – Guyana Chronicle

For the OGGN, which is based in Hollis (I have no idea where that is, and don’t want to know), the adjective “ogygian” means ancient or primitive. It’s the most appropriate adjective to describe a group of aging Guyanese expatriates who left these shores, as we like to say, “donkey years” ago, from their base in Hollis hoping that the Guyanese government would confront ExxonMobil (EMGL) and renegotiate the oil contract.
So why can this unknown cabal be described as Augean? Because it knows nothing about international relations in the 21st century. It is doubtful that any of these people have been trained in international relations, so their view of the world is based on Augean thinking. We need to remind this cabal that we live in the 21st century.

I have seen strong academic arguments for why Guyana cannot renegotiate its oil contracts. I have written a column on the subject based on international realpolitik. I have read that Guyanese lawyers and businessmen argue that asking EMGL to renegotiate is impossible in the real world we live in. The secretary general of the opposition party ANUG recently said that EMGL cannot be forced to renegotiate. Kian Jabour said on the Freddie Kissoon Show that international contracts should be respected.

I will not repeat the arguments against forced renegotiation because it does not make any sense to the OGGN-affiliated ogre groups. They are searching for relevance and will irrationally cling to what keeps them alive. In the rest of this column, I will examine a letter from the opposition private media in which Joel Bhagwandin was harshly criticized by the OGGN.
I will be better off than Joel because I do not consult for any individual, organization or government. I do not work for any entity in Guyana and have no political affiliation. I write for the Chronicle for no pay and that is my decision and I do not hate writing for free. I do not know if OGGN has two negative descriptions of me.
One was from the Editor-in-Chief of Stabroek News, who called me a stooge of the PPP. Another was from Dr. Nigel Westmaas, who is probably one of the darlings of OGGN, who called me an attack dog of the PPP. I don’t know if OGGN accepts the lament of one of their favorite Guyanese, Kaieteur News owner Glenn Lall, who said on his show that I received millions of dollars from Vice President Bharrat Jagdeo. I don’t know what you would think of me, but based on the millions of dollars offered, if it was actually offered, I would probably accept it.

Now to the letter attacking Joel Bhagwandin. One of the signers is Andre Brandli from Germany. Dr. Brandli has not responded to me regarding the German government’s harassment and persecution of pro-Palestinian speeches, written words, and physical protests. The German government has officially stated that Israel is the foundation of the German state. Does Brandli know what this means? If he doesn’t, he should look it up, and when he does, he should leave Germany and go to Guyana. This is a terrifying statement.
Next up is the event that OGGN will be hosting in Hollis and will have two opposition figures from Guyana addressing the gathering – Dr. Vincent Adams of AFC and Christopher Ram. But why hold the event in New York and not in Guyana, where local hotels, local caterers, local PR firms and local security firms can all benefit? That’s what I mean by OGGN being an ogygian entity.

So who are these ogygian figures who will be holding events to promote the renegotiation of oil contracts, but they will be doing so in a foreign place called Hollis? Next up is one of OGGN’s guests – Vincent Adams. He symbolizes the power of the adjective ogygian. Dr. Adams lived in the United States all his life and retired to Guyana at the age of 70.
But he has one advantage that the OGGN ogre personality doesn’t have – he’s back. When will they follow Adams to live here? Finally, a few quick questions for the OGGN ogre: Can they ask Dr. Adams who is

In July 2020, the AFC advocated for apartheid in Guyana, which Adams opposed.
Shouldn’t such people be exposed? Secondly, what does OGGN think of news reporting by the private media? Isn’t professional news reporting more important to Guyana’s stability than renegotiating the oil contract?
