Chicago (CNN) — Barack and Michelle Obama used back-to-back speeches at the Democratic National Convention to lambast Donald Trump and urge Americans to reject the Republican nominee once and for all.
In one of the most memorable speeches in convention history, the former first lady called on Democrats to abandon their “Goldilocks complex” and work toward electing Vice President Kamala Harris.
“We can’t vent our anxiety about whether this country will elect someone like Kamala instead of doing everything we can to get someone like Kamala elected,” he said.
Next, the former president said in a speech that “the vast majority of us do not want to live in a country that is bitter and divided.”
“We don’t need another four years of bluster and bumbling and confusion. “We’ve seen that movie before, and we all know the sequels are usually worse,” Obama said.
Their speeches capped an evening in which Democrats sought to introduce Harris in a more personal way to Americans who are only now beginning to get to know the vice president, just a month after she clinched the party’s 2024 nomination.

“Rather than venting about whether this country will elect someone like Kamala, we need to do everything we can to get someone like Kamala elected,” she said.
The former president then said in a speech that “the vast majority of us don’t want to live in a country that is filled with pain and division,” which evoked memories of his entry into American politics and his own election victory.
“We don’t want another four years of bluster and bumbling and confusion. We’ve seen this movie before, and we all know the sequels are usually worse,” Obama said.
