In the 2022 electionThe elections for federal and state parliamentarians, senators, governors and the President of the Republic saw an even higher turnout, with 2.1 million young people registering, an increase of 51.13% over 2018.
At the other end of the electorate are seniors over 70, who are also not obliged to vote. Even so, 15.2 million voters held an up-to-date voter registration card to participate in the election, representing 9.76% of the total electorate. This is a 23% increase compared to the 2020 elections, reaching 12.3 million. In total, 20.5 million Brazilians are eligible to vote, even if it is not mandatory.
