SEOUL: South Korea’s military confirmed that North Korea launched two ballistic missiles on Monday (July 1) – the latest in a series of weapons tests by Pyongyang that have soured relations with Seoul.
South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said in a statement that a short-range ballistic missile was launched in the early morning. It added that a second missile was spotted about 10 minutes later, but that missile has not yet been identified.
“Our military has stepped up surveillance and vigilance to prepare for further launches,” the Joint Chiefs of Staff said, adding that information about the incident had been shared with the United States and Japan.
There was no immediate confirmation from North Korea’s official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) about the launch.
