A fire broke out at the Beunden School building in Nidau on Saturday morning. Emergency services responded and found a classroom on fire. The fire was quickly brought under control. No children were in the school at the time of the fire.
The Bern cantonal police announced on Saturday afternoon that the school building is currently unavailable. For information on school operations, police recommend visiting the website of the city of Niedau. Affected students and their parents will also be notified directly through the school authorities.
An investigation into the cause of the fire has begun. According to the press release, the main problem was a technical defect. According to preliminary estimates, the property damage caused amounted to tens of thousands of francs.
