Caracas. – President of Venezuela, Nicolas MaduroOn Friday he rejected an asylum offer from Panamanian President Jose Raul Mulino and assurances from the United States to resolve the crisis after a presidential election in which official results confirmed a win by Venezuela’s biggest coalition rival that was marred by fraud.
Maduro asked the Panamanian president to govern his country instead of trying to do so in Venezuela, speaking on state television VTV, while he demanded respect from the United States.
“The United States (…) is willing to offer me everything that pleases me (…) I will ask for respect for Venezuelan democracy; the second wish, respect for Venezuela’s independence and stability; the third wish is that we reach a 50-year understanding that allows them to stay where they are and Venezuela to remain calm,” the president said.
On the other hand, Maduro said that Moulino sent him a message after taking office, “leaning on him” and promising to restore relations between Venezuela and Panama, but then the head of the command “visited him”. Maduro continued that after a meeting in the southern United States, “he stood up amid an uproar” and called for a summit to resolve the post-election crisis in the Caribbean country.

However, last Thursday, Mulino reported that six or seven presidents had confirmed their attendance at the meeting, while raising the possibility of a meeting next week, when several leaders will be in the Dominican Republic for the swearing-in ceremony of Luis Abinader, the re-elected president.
Maduro warned Moulino that “whoever irritates Venezuela will dry up” and “perform poorly” after the Panamanian president proposed a summit to “rehearse more actions in support of democracy and popular will in Caribbean countries.”
Neither Panama nor the United States recognizes the results announced by Venezuela’s electoral body and says the winner of the presidential election is Edmundo González Urrutia, the standard-bearer of the largest opposition alliance, who collected “83.5%” of the electoral records that he assures prove his victory, which Maduro considers a “falsified document.”
