Front Guard Edmonton Oilers Oscar Klefbom has officially hung up his skates.
The 31-year-old Swede has not played in an NHL game since the 2019-2020 season. In the 2020-21 season, the Oilers announced that he would miss the game due to a shoulder injury and would never return to the court.
Since then, Klefbom has been on the team’s long-term injury list. His seven-year, $29.17 million contract will expire at the end of the 2023 season.
“I’m not done with hockey, but it’s over now,” Klefbom told Swedish website Hockey Sverige.
“I’m very happy with my career. I’m grateful that I had the opportunity to compete as much as I could – even if I played with pain. I took part in a fantastic adventure. »
He was the Oilers’ first-round pick (19th overall) in 2011 and spent seven seasons in Alberta. He scored 34 goals and 156 points in 378 NHL games.
