Ngerulmud without water due to severe pipe leak

Ngerulmud, Palau – The Ngerulmud office is currently without water due to a major pipe leak discovered this morning. As a result, all rest rooms in the building have been closed until the issue is resolved.

Public Works Director Brian Melairei said the source of the leak was near the Justice Building. “We don’t know the exact extent of the leak yet because we are still mobilizing excavators to the site to dig and further assess,” he said. “Only when we dig out the problem will we know the time and cost to repair it.”

The leak was discovered on the morning of July 29, 2024, and officials are currently assessing the extent of the damage. Staff at the Ngerulmud office have been alerted to the water outage, and maintenance crews are taking all necessary precautions to remedy the situation.

Water services to Ngerulmud will remain disrupted until the pipeline is repaired. We will issue further updates on the restoration of water services as more information becomes available.
