New tragedy in Benimbau

The Beni region in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo has been the scene of deadly conflict for years. Civilians are paying a heavy price for this violence, which is often blamed on the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF).

On Saturday, August 10, 2023, a new chapter was added to this sad story. The ADF launched a dual attack in the area Beni-Mbau, targeting innocent civilians, mainly farmers working in their fields.

At least 18 people were killed and 14 are missing. The attackers also destroyed houses and properties, leaving many families homeless and impoverished. The ADF’s repeated attacks are aimed at intimidating the population and forcing them off their lands. As a result, the armed group seeks to expand its sphere of influence and control the region’s natural resources.

The state is unable to protect its citizens
