New Caledonia crisis: Proposal for provincial empowerment sparks reaction

Governor of Southern Province, Sonia Backès gave her detailed views on Sunday, July 14, on the events that New Caledonia has experienced over the past two months.

In a 35-minute statement on the agency’s Facebook page, she said she particularly condemned electoral fraud in the legislative elections, the failure of living together, and proposed the concept of empowering the provinces.
