Mzuzu, August 18, Mana: Vice President Dr Michael Usi said the management of the National Economic Empowerment Fund (NEEF) loan should be apolitical to ensure equitable use of the loan.
Usi addressed a crowd made up mainly of UTM members at the ShopRite roundabout in Mzuzu after arriving in the Northern Region on Sunday. He is expected to hold a series of public events in the region.
He acknowledged that most people were experiencing financial hardship and therefore needed to ensure that all those who qualified could get loans, regardless of their political affiliation.
“NEEF is designed to benefit all Malawians and I hereby pledge that every supplier who does business will receive a minimum of 250,000.00 Kyats to grow their business and improve the economic situation of their families.
I urge the NEEF management to provide loans to all who need this service, regardless of their political background, as the challenges faced affect everyone, so providers should be able to avail loans starting next week,” Usi said
Usi, who is also UTM president, said the face of the party should reflect the status of people’s families, adding that the party’s strength should come from financially strong families.
“I call on the party and UTM members to unite. This is not the time to play politics, stir up disputes and slander others because it will only destroy peace, which is a great catalyst for development. Without people, the country cannot develop,” he said.
He then further described the late Vice President, Saulos Chilima, as a peace-loving man and urged all Malawians to emulate his life and always promote peace.
Earlier, Usi and those present observed a minute’s silence to pay tribute to the late Chilima, who Usi said was an influential people and advised Malawians to follow and respect his values.
On the political front, Usi called on politicians to prioritize their duty to serve the people and not vie for political titles for popularity.
Speaking earlier, UTM Northern Region Governor Bridget Nengezi commended Usi for visiting Mzuzu City to understand the challenges faced by the people of the region through interaction with various stakeholders.
