The Russia-Ukraine war will be at the top of the agenda for the summit in the US capital, Washington.

The NATO summit brought together leaders from 32 NATO member states, and the meeting kicked off with events to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the founding of NATO.

US President Joe Biden awarded NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg the Presidential Medal of Freedom at a ceremony.

Jens Stoltenberg focused on the war in Ukraine in his speech.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said it was necessary to continue supporting Ukraine against Russia, adding that the outcome of the war would affect global security for decades.

The country’s host, U.S. President Joe Biden, announced that member states will provide Ukraine with an air defense system of “historic” significance.

Joe Biden announced that he would provide Patriot air defense systems and their components to Ukraine, along with Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and Romania.

Ukrainian President Zelensky was also invited to attend the summit.

“The world cannot wait for the U.S. presidential election in November to weaken Russia,” Zelensky said in a statement issued in Washington before attending the summit.
