National Hurricane Center tracks new tropical disturbance along southeastern U.S. coast

The National Hurricane Center (NHC) is closely monitoring a trough of low pressure over the eastern Gulf of Mexico.

This atmospheric disturbance caused widespread scattered showers and thunderstorms over the region.

Projected path through Florida

The cyclone is expected to move northeast and cross Florida the next day, according to a morning update from the National Hurricane Center.

It is expected to arrive offshore the southeastern coast of the United States later this week.

The National Hurricane Center stressed that the likelihood of formation remains low, with a 0% chance of formation within the next 48 hours and a 20% chance of formation within the next week.

Heavy rain is expected

Whether or not the system develops further, it will bring significant rainfall to parts of Florida.
