Kmita is a former governor of Lesser Poland and a current MP for the Law and Justice Party. He has been the favorite of Jaroslaw Kaczynski since the beginning of the battle for the Marshal’s seat. Although the Law and Justice Party has an independent majority in parliament, Kmita has not yet won a majority.
On Thursday morning, it was announced that he would be replaced by the current Deputy Marshal of the Lesser Poland Voivodeship, Łukasz Smółka, in battle No. 6. Meanwhile, Kmita published an ambiguous post on social media just after Thursday 17th.
“I always play as a team, because only a team can win. My team is Law and Justice! I play for Małopolska, so that the people of Małopolska can trust us! I always play until the last minute, until the last bell ;)” – wrote Kmita.
Sixth attempt to elect provincial marshal
The PiS central authorities suspended four people after Kmita failed to secure the support of at least 20 MPs required in the previous vote.
The MPs have one more week to elect a marshal. If they fail to do so, on July 11, according to regulations, the parliament will be dissolved, the MPs will automatically lose their seats, and the prime minister will have to announce new elections for the Małopolska parliament.
According to the information from the legal department of the provincial government, the date of the new elections to the Małopolska Regional Assembly should be counted from July 12. Then the 90th day will be October 9. Therefore, the last possible holiday for holding the elections will be October 6.
