Tofa Ramsay Shipping has announced the retirement and disposal of its iconic vessel, the MV Alaimoana, marking the end of an era for the inter-island ferry route between Tongatapu and Ewa.
The company shared the news on social media, recalling the ship’s rich history and contributions to the community.
The MV Alaimoana, which was put into operation in the 1990s, was towed to deep sea yesterday evening to be handled by its successor, the MV Vaomapa, in a symbolic farewell.
The ‘Alaimoana’, purchased from New Zealand by the Tofā Ramsay family, provided a vital link between Nuku’alofa and ‘Ewa, facilitating travel and trade between the islands. The vessel played an important role in the company’s development, culminating in the acquisition of the new vessel, the MV Vaomapa.
In a memorable farewell message, the company said: “Thank you for the wonderful memories!”
