In a night where the raw and the emotional intertwined in a sublime way, Touché Amoré gave a concert in Costa Rica that will be remembered as an act of pure catharsis. The Californian band made a surprise debut in our country and showed that beauty can emerge from chaos, that wildness and rawness can move people to tears.
The arrival of Touché Amoré in Costa Rica that we experienced at Amón Solar on July 18th was not something we had imagined long ago. However, the growing emo scene in our country paved the way for these post-hardcore giants to bring a powerful message. From the first chord, it was clear that the night would be an intense emotional journey, able to lift attendees out of their madness. Crowd surfing and Moshwith sensitive and honest lyrics that hit home deeply.
The concert began with a strange burst of energy, because unlike many bands who save their most popular songs for the closing, it started with Flowers and Youwhat a hymn. The band unleashed a torrent of sound that quickly turned into a physical and emotional whirlwind. Not even a minute had passed before people were already stacked on top of each other, rushing in unison, as if they had been waiting for this day… as if they had been waiting since getting up to go to work to hear those iconic arpeggios before the frenzy and blessing to pass the time of the day. Mosh.
Yet, between the tension, the sweat, and the fury, there was an undeniable tenderness that could be felt. In every scream from singer Jeremy Bolm (who spent the night expressing gratitude for the fact that his music resonated in a country like Costa Rica), you could hear not only the fury of his songs, but also the vulnerability and honesty conveyed in his voice, and in his countenance.
Formed in 2007, Touché Amoré is a band that captures the essence of post-hardcore in their music with brutal honesty. His lyrics, which touch on themes such as battling depression, grief, and searching for identity, resonate deeply with those facing their own struggles. The band’s ability to transform pain into art is on display in every performance, with songs that strike intimate heartstrings and unleash a range of emotions.
This California band, consisting of Jeremy Bolm (vocals), Clayton Stevens (guitar), Nick Steinhardt (guitar), Tyler Kirby (bass) and Elliot Babin (drums), showed on stage the cohesion and passion that comes from years of walking the path of rock. You can tell because they sound very connected, Jeremy’s vocals are impressive, with each musician playing each note perfectly, creating a chaotic but beautiful symphony. The singer is also a true athlete, from his body to his stainless steel vocal cords, he never stops giving a physical performance.
One of the most memorable moments of the evening was In the spotlight, The song perfectly embodied the duality of Touché Amoré’s music: a mix of overwhelming intensity and heartbreaking fragility. The audience was moved and responded wholeheartedly, forming a choir that accompanied Bolm’s every word, every scream.
People go home grateful to Destiny Recordings, Deathbeat Productions and all the allies for the quality of the production. Touché Amoré recently participated in Outbreak Festival, one of the greatest festivals in the world, and brought the same energy to San Jose that surprised us all. Such concerts make people reflect on why “melomania” exists and why those of us who love concerts can’t stop looking for this feeling.
