Pangkalpinang (ANTARA) – The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) expects 1,000 Islamic scholars from all over Indonesia to attend the Ijtima Ulama VIII Conference on May 28-29 in Sungailiat, Bangka District, Bangka Belitung Islands.

Abdulrahman Dahlan, deputy chairman of the MUI Fatwa Council, said on Wednesday that the meeting would be chaired by Vice President Ma’ruf Amin.

“Currently, some Ulama have confirmed their attendance. However, there are still some who will not be able to attend this year’s Ijtima Ulama conference in Sungailiat,” he added.

Dahlan said Bangka Belitung province hosted this year’s conference because the province has extensive experience in organizing national and international-level MUI events.

“This location is significant as MUI has hosted two successful events in Bangka Belitung before,” he added.

He expressed hope that the upcoming Ulema League conference would be able to resolve the problems faced by the Indonesian people.
