LILONGWE, July 14 (Xinhua) — Fortune Milanzi, a 20-year-old student of the Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS), has been temporarily suspended from school due to health reasons.
Milanzi, a Biomedical Engineering (Honours) student, has been living with aplastic anaemia, a serious blood disorder, since 2023.
Miranzil would need frequent blood transfusions or a bone marrow transplant or ATG + cyclosporine treatment, which can be obtained in India or South Africa.
The treatment costs approximately 30 million Malawian Kwacha, which his family cannot afford on their own, so they are calling on individuals and organizations for support.

Milanzi, who hails from Nkhotakota, passed his MSCE examination with 10 marks at Bishop Mtekateka Secondary School in 2021 and enrolled at MUBAS in 2022, where he was a second-year student.
A medical report by Dr Faith Ellah Nyirongo, the director of Kamuzu Central Hospital and a senior media officer, recommended that Fortune Milanzi needed frequent medical check-ups.
“Despite my best efforts, this has resulted in me temporarily withdrawing from my studies as my health has recently deteriorated, which has made it challenging for me to keep up with my classes and attend classes regularly,” Milanzi said.

However, Milanzi remained determined to continue and complete his studies and believed that with the right support he could overcome the barrier of seeking help.
Currently, Fortune’s family, friends and community are supporting him, asking for help and praying for his recovery.
Anyone willing to help can contact Fortune’s father, Mr Francis Milanzi, at +265 881 143 035.
