MSDS Communication Network: 2024 Paris Olympics: Mali still has nothing to show for it!

Let’s put it in a funny tone: the commitment of our athletes to the trophy is limited to the gates of Kuluba. The flag-bearing duo of Alexien Kouma and Marine Camara at the 2024 Paris Olympics can attest to this. Yes! Not a single Malian athlete, participating in the 14th Olympic Games and in different sports, has been able to break the glass ceiling and offer their homeland an Olympic medal, no matter how much it is worth. Even if one believes that the national sports world is destined to underperform, it is difficult to accept that Mali is still on the list of countries that have never won a medal after many appearances at the Olympics. If the reason is that the country has done too little with Fode Sissoko, the West African champion in the 200 meters, the fact is that in neighboring countries the same problem persists, but this has not prevented their athletes from winning several Olympic medals.

The truth is perhaps that Mali, in terms of sports, must dissolve all the federations that have won insignificant trophies from meaningless competitions that border on the absurd. However, we must hope to reach the next Olympics with greater success, provided that a comprehensive introspection is necessary to avoid this spiral of failure that is beginning to make the Malian sports public even more bitter because it tarnishes the image of the entire country.
