As Cambodia graduates from the least developed country (LDC) status in the near future, Prime Minister Hun Manet said Cambodia cannot continue to be an LDC even though the LDC status has some benefits.
It should be noted that underdeveloped countries generally have preferential tariffs and low-interest loans. But for Hong Manet, Cambodia does not need to rely on their understanding and tolerance to survive, that is, Cambodia needs to survive on its own to be sustainable and strong.
The head of the Cambodian government said that if Cambodia does not strengthen its own strength, Cambodia will be dependent for life. On the contrary, if Cambodia strengthens itself and aspires to become a wealthy country, then Cambodia will not only be able to get rid of the poor countries or the least developed countries, but Cambodia, which dares to have fun with them, will become a wealthy country in 2050.
At the same time, Mr. Hun Manet also emphasized that if Cambodia wants to be independent, it must do its own thing, work hard, live on its own, does not need anyone’s understanding, and can compete with all countries.
But Hun Manet’s remarks do not take into account the situation of Cambodia, which has just recovered from war. He warned that if Cambodia’s education sector remains weak, then Cambodia will not be able to achieve its goal of becoming rich by 2050.
According to the World Bank, Cambodia’s economic growth in 2024 is expected to be 5.8%, slightly higher than 5.6% in 2023. Economic growth will reach 6.1% in 2025 and 6.4% in 2026, and Cambodia will have to graduate from the least developed country status in 2027.
