Abdulaziz Ali Riyami from Bahla spoke to Al-Monitor about the unpredictability of wadis, “They wash away trees and rocks and even shift soil. We know it’s best not to go near a flowing wadis. But the situation is different, for example, the Nizwa market is located at the level of the wadis. So once the alarm is sounded, vehicles have to be moved away. When it comes to parking near a wadis, people tend to assess the size of the wadis. Once a flash flood occurs, the wadis changes its energy level, speed and size.”
After images of the washed-away vehicles emerged on social media platforms, Nasir Shibli shared his thoughts: “What is the reason for leaving the car in the valley or taking a risky drive? Is it a waterway or a means of transport in times of emergency? Those who take risks or are negligent must bear the responsibilities and consequences. It is the responsibility of a reasonable person to guard against risks.”
