Last weekend, the seventh edition of Music Acceleration, a residential summer boarding school for young and talented music students aged 14 to 19, began.
This educational initiative, led by the Public Bank Foundation as part of its Music Talent Development Program, brings together a new generation of musicians through experiences that provide a fundamental space for their professional development.
“The Music Acceleration Boarding School reaffirms our commitment to transforming lives through education and promoting social well-being and economic progress. Our Music Talent Development Program provides a unique opportunity for students to continue to develop and strengthen their musical, business and personal skills, preparing them for the future and allowing them to reach their full potential,” said Beatriz Polhamus, Executive Director of the Foundation.
Since its launch in 2018, the program has benefited more than 200 students who have attended workshops with renowned mentors from the music industry. This year, about 140 nominations were submitted, of which 66 students were admitted through audition. Surpasses the participant records of other versions.
During the week-long residency, young musicians will enhance their skills through classes, immersive workshops and activities in music production, composition, fundamental aspects of pursuing a career in music, and a historical overview of Latin American music.. Adapting to the technological advancements and changing needs of Puerto Rico, the program will enrich your musical skills with its themes of music history, technology, and entrepreneurship.
The residential internship will take place this week at the Inter-American University of Puerto Rico’s Metropolitan Campus. In turn, students will participate in seminars and courses with leading figures in education and music, including: Ángel “Cucco” Peña, Ziré Zayas, David B., Messy Deprat, Marcos Sánchez, Brenda Hopkins, George Arroyo, Flor de Toloache, PJ Sin Suela, Tiffany Román, Lidda García, Roberto Rivera (ASCAP), Andrés Vela, Paco Paco, David Rivera, Johanny Navarro, psychologist María del Carmen Monrozeau, Edgar Cruz Robles “Edgo”, El Laberinto del Coco, Ángel “Chuco” Quintero and Emanuel Santana, among others.
In addition, they will spend the entire week under the guidance of outstanding teachers and musicians Armando Ramírez, José Ortiz, Irvin Santiago, Nicole Yomara Santiago, Emily Reyes, Carlos Cruz, Jorge Flynn and Yaritza Zayas. On the other hand, they will participate in ear training courses with María Alejandra Fernández, María Gabriela Fernández, Merle Ann Rodríguez and Sharlene Reyes.
As part of this experience, participants will also enjoy various activities such as a tithe seminar, a guided tour of the museums and collections of the University of the Americas and a tour of the Rio Piedras Botanical Garden, where a seminar on acoustic ecology will be taught. At the end of the internship, the young people will participate in a recital under the guidance of a mentor. The recital will take place on Saturday, June 29, in the theater of the aforementioned university.
