The press conference enabled journalists to learn everything about the new disease that has shocked the world and the measures taken by the Malian health authorities to respond to it.
Minister Colonel Assa Badiallo Tour said that “this is not a time to panic, but a time to implement the measures enacted seriously”, adding that “even though our country has not detected any cases of monkeypox so far, we must not give up, we must take all the necessary measures to maintain Mali’s path to zero cases. This means getting up early will give us a better chance of avoiding the spread of the virus.”
Regarding cholera, the Minister decided to preemptively deal with possible cases following the floods that have caused numerous disasters in several parts of the country. The aim is to prevent the spread of the highly contagious cholera disease.
World Health Organization representative Christiane Itamar said the WHO is working to minimize the risk of contamination. She assured WHO experts that research will continue.
Therefore, the presentations by speakers Prof. Soungalo Dao, Prof. Ibrahim Guindo, Dr. Koureichi Tall and Dr. Cheick Amadou Tidiane TRAORE focused on the different stages of the disease and its manifestations, contamination factors and incubation period. In addition, preparedness measures and management of rumors about the disease were discussed.
They informed that mobile teams have been trained to provide home care to possible cases and arrangements have been made to set up isolation points in hospital settings.
