It is difficult to say whether these goals have been at least partially achieved, especially considering that Moldtelecom loses 2 million lei per day on its fixed-line services.
Recent data indicate an improvement in the financial situation. As a result, in the first half of 2023, Moldtelecom’s profit increased by about 46% to RON 102.5 million, about RON 32 million more than in the same period of 2022.
Who is the new interim CEO?
New interim CEO Viorel Motorniuc becomes the sixth person to take charge of Moldtelecom in the past 4-5 years, a sign of serious management instability.
Viorel Moltniuk also served as an advisor to Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilitsa for just four months before leaving under unclear circumstances. He is also associated with a Romanian company specializing in the retail trade of furniture, lighting, home furnishings, etc.
In addition, Moldova Telecom is a 100% state-owned company and the largest fixed-line operator in Moldova.
