Minister of Cabinet Affairs Mohammed Abdullah Al Gergawi witnessed the graduation ceremony of a number of government communications officials who participated in the “Advanced Diploma in Digital Communications for Government” program, organized by the New Media Academy in partnership with the Mohammed bin Rashid Academy of Government. This is the first executive diploma of its kind in the region and aims to… support the skills of government communications teams and provide them with expertise to qualify them to follow the best international practices in the field of digital communications.
The Executive Diploma aims to develop national competencies qualified to lead government communications departments and keep up to date with the latest global trends and practices in the field, informing members of the latest trends in future governments, motivating communications teams to follow best practices and staying up to date with new technologies and global channels.
The diploma also aims to develop members’ skills in creating content to ensure that the messages of the entities and agencies they serve reach their target audiences, develop impactful digital communications, develop digital communications strategies and measure their implementation, develop social media strategies in line with government objectives, and implement digital media strategic plans.

Al-Gergawi stressed that the Advanced Diploma in Government Digital Communications reflects the importance of the government communications sector and its need for special capabilities and talents that can effectively convey the message of government departments, thereby achieving the highest level of efficiency and effective communication with society and all its sectors and components.

The project, which saw the graduation of a number of cadres of government communications officers from federal and local authorities, supported the use of new tools and modern methods of digital media to strengthen the government communications system, which currently enjoys a high level of influence and impact in the local, regional and global media scene.
Program members are trained on how to develop a clear digital communications strategy that aligns with their organization’s goals by identifying their audiences, researching their needs, discovering how to find solutions to the problems they face, developing key messages through the use of digital media that deliver educational, entertaining and compelling content, and disseminating the content through appropriate channels to achieve audience engagement.
Members also learned how to develop a digital communications strategic plan, how to integrate communications across various digital channels, how to use storytelling to make special content engaging to audiences, how to apply storytelling techniques to create digital social content, how to distribute special content for maximum impact, and develop a communication plan for a crisis, present campaign data to the public, stakeholders, and managers, improve press releases and increase media coverage, and use digital tools that make work easier.
The academic and practical content of the diploma allows the participating communications cadres to understand the latest manifestations of digital transformation in the world, especially in the field of government communications, and to keep pace with the latest new technologies and global channels to ensure that the specific messages of government agencies reach the target audience.
The program also includes experiences that enhance the ability of participating communications officers to lead and develop impactful digital communications, qualifying them to develop social media strategies that align with organizational goals and implement effective and advanced digital media roadmap strategies.
Starting next July, the third cohort of the Higher Diploma in Digital Communications in Government programme, scheduled to take place between October and November this year, will be open for applications. The programme has the highest number of employees in charge of government communications from local and federal entities applying for it, and to benefit from its courses and programmes that are in line with the best international practices in this field.
Notably, the Advanced Diploma in Digital Communications in Government is the result of a collaboration between staff from the Mohammed bin Rashid School of Government and the School of New Media, with the aim of bridging the gap between government communications and digital media, which has largely dominated the media scene in the UAE, the region and the world.
