Mircea Geoană recently responded to the accusations of using his book as a tool for his campaign for the Romanian presidency, saying that the launch of this literary project had nothing to do with his political plans. Geoană stressed that his work was conceived during the pandemic and that he had no intention of using it as an electoral tool.
In a recent show, Mircea Geoană admitted that he and Nicolae Ciucă have some things in common, such as coming from military families and a deep respect for the military and national security structures. However, Geoană stressed that the differences between the two in terms of their educational and professional backgrounds became apparent, thus emphasizing the diversity of their career paths.
“I’m a guy who cares about our military, I care about our national security structure. But after that, as an education, as a background, it’s just a completely different thing,” he explained.
Regarding the publication of her book, Joana explained that the idea for the manuscript came during the pandemic and was initially written in English for an international audience. However, over time, he realized that it was more important to communicate with his country.
“I wrote it originally in English… As I was writing it, I realized that, in fact, the more important goal was to speak to my own country,” Joana declared.
The official insisted that a possible run for president was not on his mind when he started writing the book, which he described as a profound reflection on Romania’s problems and noted that he had put a lot of passion into its creation.
“When I left, I knew nothing about the candidacy or anything else. I did it in an honest way. It contained my deepest thoughts, questions about Romania’s history, questions about the problems we face,” he said.
When compared to other politicians, such as Nicolae Ciucă, who also recently published a book, Geoană avoided getting into the controversy. When asked if he would read Nicolae Ciucă’s book, Mircea Geoană said that he respects the work of others and would read some passages.
“Some people write books in time, some write books out of time… I’ll read passages from books, sure, I have no problem with that. I respect other people’s work,” he said.
