Muscat: The Ministry of Health (MOH) said it has launched latent tuberculosis (TB) screening as part of health certification for residency applications.
According to experts, people with latent TB (LTB) do not have any symptoms and cannot spread TB. However, if they do not receive treatment, they may develop active TB in the future, spread the disease to others, and feel very sick. People with active TB can be treated and cured if they get medical help.
The main method for diagnosing LTBI is a tuberculin skin test (TST) on the forearm or a blood test for TB, plus a chest X-ray if either test is positive.
Ministry of Health Guidelines and Screening Procedures:
Blood samples are collected for screening at accredited private medical clinics.
If the result is positive:
You will receive a text message asking you to get a chest x-ray. Go to a private, certified center.
Go to a government medical fitness center in your area.
A doctor will assess your condition and the center will then contact you to begin treatment.
Treatment for latent tuberculosis is free of charge by the Ministry of Health.
